USAREUR Band Performs Joint Concert with Polish Air Force Band

By SGT Jesse Welborn United States Army Europe Band and Chorus

Musicians from the United States and Poland joined forces on from February 1st–3rd, 2018, to perform a joint concert in Tarnowo Podgórne, Poland. The concert featured musicians from the United States Army Europe Band and Chorus and the Orkiestra Reprezentacyjna Sił Powietrznych (Polish Representative Air Force Orchestra).

For the first two days, the bands came together for intensive joint rehearsals. With the help of a translator and the shared language of music, the musicians prepared an extensive program in just two days.

The concert opened with each band performing music from their own respective countries. The Polish Orkiestra highlighted the talents of an outstanding trombone soloist, while the American band performed symphonic works by Bernstein, John Williams, and the band's own LTC Dwayne Milburn.

After showcasing their respective talents separately, the ensembles came together in a demonstration of friendship and unity through music. The second half of the concert featured a mix of Polish and American traditional and popular music. The styles ranged from Gershwin to the Beatles, and featured SPC Erika Stigler from the U.S. Army Europe Soldiers' Chorus.
