Master Sergeant Leon Butler is a native of Los Angeles, California. He has been stationed at Camp LaGuardia, South Korea, Fort Bliss, TX, Schofield Barracks, HI, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Fort Jackson, SC, Yongsan, South Korea, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK, and Sembach, Germany. His deployments include Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08, as a Platoon Sergeant for a Quick Reaction Force,  KASOTC, Jordan (2013), and Operation Inherent Resolve (2017) serving on the 1st Armored Division General Special Staff.

Master Sergeant Butler has been selected as the NCO of the Year for the 25th Infantry Division (2006), the Maneuver and Support Center of Excellence (2008), and as the Senior NCO of the Year for Army Music in 2017. He is also a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. His military schools include the Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Master Leaders Course, Sergeant Major Academy, Master Resilience Trainer courses, levels 1 & 2, Combatives Instructor courses, levels 1 & 2, Air Assault course, Rappel Master Course, Cold Weather Orientation Course, Army Retention course, CBRN Defense course, and Unit Armorer course. Master Sergeant Butler has his undergraduate degree from Troy University and Masters Degree from UIW.

His awards and decorations include the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6th Award), Army Commendation Medal (7th Award), Army Achievement Medal (17th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 CS), Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (1 CS), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (6th Awd.), Air Assault Badge, Arctic Tab, and Drivers Badge. 

He is married to Jeanie Butler and has two children.
